| Anchorages
Anchorage may take place inside the port limits between 06.00 hours and
22.00 hours or at any time in an emergency. Outside port limits: Shearwater
Bay, between Diaz Point and Angra Point. Good holding point with depth
to 20 metres. Inner port limits: Lüderitz Harbour, between Angra
Point and Shark Island. Good holding point with depth to 16 metres.
Approach
Lighthouses at Diaz Point and on north end of Shark Island. Length of
entrance channel to jetty 708 metres, width 60.9 metres, depth 6.1 metres,
width of turning basing 198 metres.
Bunkers
Light diesel gas oil is available by pipeline on both sides of main jettyand
also along the new quay.
Container
Handling A side trailer is available for handling 20 ft and 40 ft containers
up to 36 tonnes.
Cranes
Equipped with two electric cranes of 10 tonne and 4 tonne capacity for
use by coasters and lighters. A mobile harbour crane is available to handle
breakbulk and container traffic.
Facilities
New Quay: This new quay has a draft of -8.15 meters and can accommodate
vessels up to 150 meters in length. Owing to rock formations inside the
bay, depth alongside the new quay will be restricted to minus 8.75 meters
below chart datum on the outer 300 meters and -6.00 meters at the inner
end.
Concrete jetty: One berth is available on each side of the 249 metre long
concrete main jetty for vessels up to 105 meters long. A draught restriction
of 6.00 meters at LW exists. Loading and discharging by two shore cranes
of 4 tonne capacity. Heavier lifts carried out by ship's own gear.
Wooden jetty: Length 168 meters, depth 3.5 meters, used mainly by local
fishing fleet.
Fresh Water
Fresh water is available at all berths at a rate of 15 tonnes per hour
(up to four hoses per vessel).
Pilotage
All pilotage inside port limits is compulsory unless a Pilotage Exemption
Certificate has been granted (in case of frequently calling vessels of
50 metres length of vessels). Pilots board one mile north of Angra Point
in fine weather and 0,7 mile northeast of Angra Point in bad weather.
Port Control
Port Control keeps full communications from 07.00 hours to 17.00 hours
Monday to Friday. This service is complemented 24 hours a day by Diaz
Point Lighthouse, which has direct communications with the Port Captain.
Provisions
Available by arrangement with ships agents.
Radio
Port Control: VHF Channel 16.
Ship Repair
There are no dry dock facilities. Two slipways used mainly by fishing
fleet of approx. 400 tonne and 150 tonne capacity.
Storage
Both open area & under cover storage is available.
Tides
Maximum variation 1.75 metres.
Towage
One tug of 12.4 tonnes bollard pull and another tug of 32 bollard pull
available.
Waste Reception
Garbage and waste oil disposal available on request.
Weather
In summer southerly winds in excess of 40 knots are frequently experienced.
In winter, variable winds usually less than 20 knots.
Working Hours
Monday to Friday 06.00 hours to 18.00 hours. Saturday 06.00 hours to 12.00
hours. Overtime available on request.
